Sodium Chloride Brine Operations
Den-Mar Brines has entered into a commercial agreement to market very pure sodium chloride brines produced at a Sarnia Fractionation Plant. This product is called Freeze Fighter 23.
Freeze Fighter 23 sodium chloride brine is a co-product of a brine displacement system used to move product to and from storage caverns. This system includes seven surface lagoons with a capacity of over 6,800,000 barrels (238,000,000 Imperial Gallons). Salt brine does not occur naturally, but is a man-made chemical solution.
As part of the brine displacement system, the brine is passed through evaporators to produce a saturated brine so as not to increase the size of storage caverns. As an additional part of the process, the brine is directed to a degasser vessel where any trace hydrocarbons, under reduced pressure, are separated from the brine. A pilot light ensures a continuous flame which burns the hydrocarbons as they are released from the brine.
